Description

Our internal travel nursing team can be a flexible program, allowing team members the ability to tailor work/life balance to fit their lifestyle. 

 

We are seeking a capable Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse / WOC/RN who has acquired broad experience in caring for patients and has developed a sound understanding about the care of a particular patient population.

 

  • Identifies appropriate standards of care common to the patient population and safely provides patient care while supporting the unit's and hospital's Vision Alignment Matrix.
  • Routinely uses acquired knowledge, theory, research, and experience to respond to changes in clinical situations.
  • Is able to apply the Synergy Model for Care in practice and use this knowledge to personalize care for each patient/family.
  • Serves as a preceptor and resource to colleagues (such as lesser experienced nurses) and strong advocate for patients/families.
  • Provides advanced clinical guidance to physicians and nursing staff regarding the management of complex wounds, fistulas, moisture management, and pressure ulcers.
  • Determines appropriate nursing interventions for identified patient problems, symptoms, and teaching needs in respect to wound and ostomy care.
  • Recommends the equipment, materials, and resources needed to successfully implement a wound or ostomy care plan.
  • Performs appropriate pre-operative stoma site marking and ostomy education. Develops and conducts post-operative ostomy education and ostomy care plan for the patient and family. Performs related responsibilities as required.
  • Participate in agency-wide initiatives for pressure injury prevention, wound care, and ostomy care, to include supporting pressure injury prevalence data collection, evidence-based policies, procedures, and protocols, and advisement of appropriate support surfaces, products, and staff decision-making algorithms.
  • Maintains courteous and professional behavior at all times. Assesses assigned patients; reviews medical history, admitting diagnosis, physician's orders, nursing history, and evaluation of diagnostic data.
  • Interviews patient and family to determine patient needs; communicates these to interdisciplinary health care team members as appropriate.
  • Determines appropriate nursing interventions for identified problems, symptoms, behavioral changes.
  • Identifies appropriate standards of care and/or collaborative clinical pathways to guide the plan of care; revises as appropriate.
  • Administers direct nursing care to assigned patients based on priorities and timeframes.
  • Evaluates patients' responses to delivery of nursing care and patient education for self-care.
  • Keeps patient and family up to date on progress.
  • Develops, conducts, and evaluates patient and family education in discussing plan of care.
  • Teaches family and patient to perform specific procedures, documents activities.
  • When required explains rational and/or principles behind the physiology or consequences of treatments.
  • Determines and mobilizes equipment and resources necessary for successful patient care; seeks assistance in completing nursing interventions.
  • Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate.
  • Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
  • Follows established charting procedures, documenting all patient-specific aspects of wound, ostomy, and continence care to show progress or changes in the patient's condition.
  • Collaborates with members of the health care team to determine patient needs and needs of significant others in planning the treatment.
  • Attends scheduled operating unit staff meetings and system WOC-specific meetings and provide clinical guidance to students and ancillary staff.
  • Demonstrates competency in all new equipment and procedures.
  • Has opportunities to serve on committees and, as needed, perform other related duties

 

Minimum required qualifications:

 

  • Graduate of an accredited prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN
  • Completion of an accredited WOC Nursing Education program.
  • Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse. Licensure: - A valid, unencumbered Registered Nursing License approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
  • BLS certification - ACLS may be required in designated departments. –
  • Nursing Specialty Certification. - Must achieve certification in Wound Care and Ostomy Care within 6 months of entering the role: Certification: - Continence care certification

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Wound Ostomy Certification
  • Continence care certification
