Description

The Emory General Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship is currently accepting applications for the Fall 2026 cohort.

 

 Job Summary: We are seeking highly motivated and dedicated Advanced Practice Providers for the Emory General Surgery Post-Graduate APP Fellowship. This one-year paid program is specifically designed to cultivate exceptional APPs through immersive clinical education and extensive procedural training. Our fellows engage in the evidence-based management of complex surgical patients, gaining the specialized skills necessary to excel in a high-acuity environment.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Clinical Management: Assessing, diagnosing, and managing acute and chronic conditions for patients in outpatient clinics, inpatient units, and perioperative settings. 2. Surgical Assisting: Providing first or second-assist support in the operating room across various surgical sub-specialties. 3. Procedural Proficiency: Performing bedside procedures and advanced technical skills under the supervision of attending surgeons and senior APPs. 4. Care Coordination: Managing the complete perioperative patient journey, including pre-operative optimization and post-operative recovery and discharge planning. 5. Didactic Engagement: Participating in weekly surgical grand rounds, case presentations, and specialized simulation lab training.

 

Minimum Required Qualifications: Education: Eligible to graduate from an accredited PA or Acute Care NP (ACNP or AGACNP) program. Licensure: National board certification as a PA or NP. Eligible for licensure as a PA or NP in Georgia. Certification: Current BLS and ACLS certifications issued by the American Heart Association.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Experience: Previous clinical experience in a surgical or high-acuity setting (as an APP or through a robust clinical rotation history) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (required): - Medical Knowledge: A foundational understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology as it relates to general and specialized surgery. - Clinical Judgment: The ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment and recognize acute changes in patient status. - Technical Aptitude: Manual dexterity and a strong interest in developing advanced surgical and bedside procedural skills. - Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate complex information to patients and families. - Professionalism: A commitment to continuous learning, ethical practice, and the high standards of an academic medical center. - Analytical Skills: The ability to interpret diagnostic tests and apply evidence-based research to patient care plans.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Light 1-10 lbs): 0-33% of the work day (occasionally), negligible 34-66% of the workday (frequently), negligible 67-100% of the workday (constantly). Lifting 10 lbs max, carrying of small articles such as dockets, ledgers, files, small tools, occasional standing & walking, frequent sitting, close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure, Bio-hazardous waste. chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock , floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting patient care/handling injuries, radiation, shift work, travel may be required, use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

  • Eligible to graduate from an accredited PA or Acute Care NP (ACNP or AGACNP) program.
  • Completed application includes submission of the following supporting documentation:
    • CV/Resume
    • Statement of Intent
    • Three (3) letters of recommendation, including at least one from an NP/PA program director, clinical preceptor, or current employer.  
    • Official transcripts are required upon completion of graduate program and prior to starting residency. If you are a current student we require a copy of your transcript which reflects your most recent student status.
    • Current BLS and ACLS certifications issued by the American Heart Association.
