Description

We’re seeking experienced and compassionate Heart & Vascular Registered Nurses to join our growing talent pool at Emory University Hospital (EUH)—home to some of the region’s most advanced cardiac, vascular, and cardiothoracic care programs. By applying once, you’ll be considered for RN opportunities across multiple high-acuity units within EUH’s nationally recognized Heart & Vascular Center.

 

As an RN Clinician, you will apply advanced clinical knowledge to deliver personalized, patient- and family-centered care using the AACN Synergy Model for Patient Care. You’ll work with complex cardiovascular and surgical patient populations while collaborating with expert interdisciplinary teams in award-winning specialty units.

Heart & Vascular Units Represented in This Talent Pool (EUH)

4G – Cardiology Step-Down Unit (24 beds | Beacon Gold Award)

4G provides specialized care for patients with advanced and complex cardiac conditions. Nurses manage:

  • Advanced heart failure, cardiomyopathy, acute coronary syndromes, dysrhythmias, and valvular disease

  • LVADs, congenital heart disease, and pre-/post–cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, and structural heart procedures

  • Telemetry, IV therapy, blood administration, oxygen therapy, pain management, sheath removal, and radial hemostasis

Target nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
4G is the first step-down unit in Georgia to earn a Gold Beacon Award for nursing excellence.


4B-N – Heart & Vascular Moderate Care / Observation (12 beds)

4B-N provides flexible support across the entire Heart & Vascular service line at EUH, including CICU, CVICU, 6E, 8E, and 4G. Nurses care for:

  • Critical care patients awaiting placement in heart/vascular ICUs or step-down units

  • Same-day cardiovascular procedural patients requiring extended monitoring

This environment is ideal for developing strong organizational, critical thinking, and critical care assessment skills across a broad range of diagnoses and procedures.


6E – Cardiovascular Surgical Unit (24 beds | Magnet Exemplar)

6E cares for patients recovering from major cardiac and thoracic surgeries, including:

  • Heart transplantation

  • CABG procedures, valve replacements/repairs

  • Thoracic aneurysm repairs, congenital heart defect repairs

  • Ventricular assist devices (VADs)

Nurses manage chest tubes, surgical wounds, blood transfusions, pacing wires, tracheostomies, inotropes, anti-arrhythmic infusions, and LVADs.

Target nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3–4
6E was recognized during ANCC Magnet recertification as an Exemplar for its exceptional interprofessional collaboration and daily interdisciplinary rounds.


8E – Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery Step-Down

(with 6B Rollins Concierge Medical-Surgical Unit)**
8E (24 beds) cares for a wide range of cardiothoracic and vascular patients, including:

  • Lung transplant recipients and complex pulmonary conditions

  • Esophageal and gastric obstructions or perforations

  • Thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysm repairs

  • Pulmonary hypertension and post–cardiac valve surgeries

  • Peripheral arterial disease

Nurses regularly manage telemetry, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, tracheostomies, various cardiac drips, and pulmonary hypertension therapies.

6B Rollins (6 beds) provides a concierge medical-surgical experience with upgraded rooms and amenities such as access to a personal chef.

Target nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • 8E: 1:3–4

  • 6B: 1:2

8E has achieved Patient Excellence scores above the 90th percentile for four consecutive years and is a Beacon Award–winning unit.


7E – Complex Medical & Cardiac Unit (23 beds | PRISM Award)

7E cares for high-acuity medical and cardiac patients, including:

  • Advanced heart failure, LVADs, pacemaker placements

  • Pre-/post-interventional cardiology patients

  • COPD, GI bleeding, pneumonia, UTIs, electrolyte disorders

  • Liver and kidney diseases

Nurses also manage insulin drips, tracheostomies, chest tubes, peritoneal dialysis, IV antibiotics, and complex pain management.

Target nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
7E is a PRISM Award–winning unit recognized for excellence in collaboration, outcomes, and participation in innovative clinical trials.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Graduate of an accredited prelicensure BSN program with 12 months of recent nursing experience
    OR Graduate of an accredited ADN program with a minimum of 2 years of recent nursing experience

Exceptions:

  • Emory LPNs who complete an accredited RN program and obtain RN licensure may transition into this role through the RN Resident Program
  • Emory LPNs enrolled in an ADN program as of 3/30/2025 must sign an agreement to complete a BSN within two years of entering this role

Required License:

  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse license (Georgia Board of Nursing)

Certifications:

  • BLS required
  • ACLS and department-specific certifications may be required post-hire
