Description

  • Adheres to high practice standards and demonstrates: desire to mentor, attention to detail, organizational and oral/written communication skills.

  • Functions as a teacher, mentor, and coach in guiding, directing, and supervising the nursing practice.
  • Focuses on informatics competencies, use of technologies in patient care, and patient care documentation during the orientation newly hired/transferred and as an ongoing component of nursing education in the incumbents patient care area.
  • Able to provide constructive critique following an event as well as an accurate summary of performance over time.
  • Skillfully communicates with the patient, the patients family, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Highly skilled clinician who provides dependable, effective and efficient care to a patient population using the nursing process. Demonstrates advanced assessment skills.
  • Anticipates and understands the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes.

  • Frequently acts as a resource to other nurses/colleagues regarding patient care.
  • Plans and implements patient care utilizing past experience and modifies plan of care to meet individual patient needs.

  • Anticipates patient and family learning needs and collaborates with patient/family advisory council in identifying resources regarding those needs.
  • Manages time effectively and assist others with time management activities.
  • Develops or revises policies and procedures for a patient population incorporating latest evidence-based research findings.
  • Frequently acts as a resource to other nurses/colleagues regarding the use of various technologies, and specifically, the electronic documentation of patient care within EeMR and related health information technologies.
  • Documents the nursing process accurately and in the appropriate format (e.g. computer, clinical pathway, and chart) and makes suggestions regarding changes to those processes.
  • Proactively support the learning process by devising ways to expand on EeMR classroom training (e.g. developing checklists of common EeMR tasks), offering assistance proactively, and encouraging others to actively learn.
  • Participate in software and usability testing and report issues to the project team so that issues can be prioritized and resolved before go-live events.
  • Provide go-live support and answer questions, help nursing staff navigate through health information technologies (e.g. EeMR), and report issues to 8-Help or the nursing informatics team to support prompt resolution.
  • Provide long term support of health information technologies in your clinical setting.
  • Understand workflows associated with technology use in your clinical setting.
  • View the demands of the EeMR Resource Nurse Preceptor role as an opportunity to advance professionally, and demonstrate commitment to using intensive behaviors to support the effective and efficient use of health information technology.
  • Demonstrates competency in teaching and precepting skills.
  • Tailors orientees goals according to skill level and educational /clinical background.
  • Coordinates successful achievement of established goals.
  • Utilizes orientation manual, preceptor manual, and EeMR user guide by assigning individual educational sections for self-study as well as for use at the bedside during scheduled clinical.
  • Monitors and facilitates completion of orientee paperwork to provide up to date information on orientee's progress and development.
  • Notifies Clinical Educator of any delays or problems related to achieving an orientee's goals as soon as identified to ensure immediate intervention for optimal success.
  • Works effectively as a member of the interdisciplinary team, including patient/family advisors and serves as a resource to other members.
  • Functions as Charge Nurse when assigned. Explores ways to improve the use of resources and cost containment.
  • Promotes cohesive team behavior among peers and provides assistance/guidance as required.
  • Role models effective listening skills.
  • Identifies barriers to communication.
  • Takes responsibility for problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Actively assists Nursing Informatics Education Coordinators, CNS/Clinical Educators, and other EeMR Resource Nurse Preceptors with staff educational in-services as well as skills fair and patient/family education with a specific focus on informatics competencies, health care technologies, and electronic patient care documentation.
  • Modifies interventions based on a deep understanding of patient and family needs obtained through past experiences. Advocates for their patients and challenges systems and practices; tries to identify patterns in systems and processes of care that impact on the patient and families.
  • Demonstrates openness and inclusion of others values.
  • Alters interpersonal exchanges in response to cultural diversity.
  • Develops and values collaborative relationships with colleagues, patients and families.
  • Resolves routine/non-routine or complex issues on an independent basis and recognizes when an issue requires escalation.
  • Respects and maintains confidential information.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own professional development by attending and participating in preceptor meetings and skill development/credentialing/yearly refresher courses/CEU's.
  • Role models and educates others when utilizing the Synergy model for patient care.
  • Works with other EeMR Resource Nurse Preceptors and the Nursing Informatics team to identify and resolve workflow or application issues.
  • Attends scheduled EeMR Resource Nurse meetings and maintains all requirements of this PLAN role.
  • RN Commitments: Must meet all Clinical Nurse I Employee Commitments. Completes renewal of preceptor credentialing.
  • Achieves requirements and contact hours as defined in the PLAN (clinical lattice) system to maintain position.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Experience
  • 2 years of recent nursing experience AND minimum of 1 year of experience in the area of concentration AND 1 year of employment at Emory Healthcare
  • Licensure: A valid, unencumbered Registered Nursing License approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
  • Certification: BLS certification
  • ACLS may be required for certain departments, post hire
  • Additional certifications may be required based on department and specialty
  • PLAN: Must meet all Clinical Nurse I Employee Commitments.
  • Completes renewal of preceptor credentialing.
  • Achieves points and contact hours as defined in the PLAN (clinical lattice) point system to maintain position.
