Description

 Full-time, Nights 

 

  • Provides 24/7 coverage for the Capacity Command Center.
  • Responsibilities include obtaining patient bed reservations for all EHC operating units, coordinating room assignments to optimize bed utilization across the health system, critically thinking to manage appropriate patient flow, working closely with the Transfer Services RN Coordinator and Patient Flow Coordinator to manage the complex triage of incoming transfers from other locations and throughout the operating units.
  • Utilizes protocols and specific department training to prioritize patient placement into and between units at each EHC hospital both under normal and surge capacity conditions.
  • Accepts phone calls from numerous stakeholders, both internal and external that includes, but is not limited to physicians, nurses, nursing leadership, housekeeping, transport etc.
  • Validate nightly OR schedule and target patient to appropriate location/level of care. Uses advanced clinical knowledge and medical chart review to direct proper patient placement at each operating unit.
  • Supports efficient utilization of EHC beds in accordance with established health system standards and patient placement policies. Communicates patients' placement needs to stakeholders in the patient flow process through appropriate verbal and written communications.
  • Manages all assignments of patients requiring an inpatient bed via the electronic patient flow application at each EHC hospital.
  • Utilizes application tools such as bed prioritization and ready to move functionality to align best placement with clinical staff input.
  • Completes regularly scheduled validation of census, daily incoming bed requests, bed block management, staffed bed accuracy, and other critical data reviews to support capacity data integrity.
  • Utilizes multimedia sources to identify best patient placement, flow barriers and areas of concern to support efficient patient flow throughout EHC.
  • Collaborates with other bed planning team members to identify opportunities to load balance, shift patient volumes and alleviate potential flow bottlenecks across the health system.
  • Accepts incoming transfer calls when Transfer Service RN is not available, connect parties and transcribe information in relation to the transfer.
  • Maintain the highest standard of customer service as seen in exceptional phone service metrics.
  • Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. Regularly reviews census and acuity information to determine or anticipate potential problems or trends and to prevent the disruption of services.
  • Collects and analyzes transfer specific data to assure efficiency of most current processes. Maintains complete and accurate documentation concerning activities and decisions related to the admission, transfer or discharge of a patient.
  • Collects, organizes, and analyzes data to generate and provide accurate and complete reports. Serves as a resource on bed status of hospital patient care units and on placement of particular patients.
  • Supports and participates in research and related activities as needed. Helps identify problems and develop research projects and protocols to improve the quality of patient care.
  • Act as a mentor and trainer for new members of the team.
  • Must have a solid knowledge base of standard operations within the Capacity Command Center area, possessing the interpersonal skills to provide a constructive learning environment for new bed control coordinator team members, and the ability to identify and adjust training as needed by diverse learning styles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in nursing required. Must have a valid, active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board.
  • Experience: Three years of recent (within the past five years) critical care nursing experience that includes supervision and patient bed placement.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Provider and ACLS certifications required.
