Description

This position is full time, 7am - 5:30pm, call required. This position is eligible for shift differentials. 

 

We're seeking a Surgical Technologist, Operating Room responsible for

implementing and evaluating care of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients undergoing diagnostic and invasive surgical procedures. This Surgical Tech professional will provide care to patients with complex health issues and serve as a clinical resource to staff. This individual:

  • Is considered an expert in two or more complex specialty areas with ability to float to other complex specialty areas. Complex specialty areas include CVOR, Complex Neuro Procedures (aneurysm, craniotomy), Large Organ Transplant, Surg Onc (Head & Neck, Skull Based, HIPEC), and Reconstructive Surgery (e.g. TRAM Flaps).
  • Participates and leads in identification of cost containment activities.
  • Monitors and maintains supplies and initiates purchases to ensure par levels.
  • Plans for surgical procedure based on identified needs of surgeon and patient. Implements intervention for identified patient problems as related to surgical procedure and patient needs. Utilizes appropriate standards of care, and/or collaborative clinical pathways to guide the plan of care.
  • Determine the equipment, materials, and resources needed to meet the patient procedure plan.
  • Serves as clinical resource for Surgical Technologists in designated service line for orienting new employees and conducting inservices for process improvement in designated service line.
  • Set up and operate a variety of specialized instrumentation, manual and powered equipment. Follows procedures for pre and post-operative accounting of sharps, sponges and instruments used in the surgical set up. Performs related responsibilities as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent. Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program or equivalent job training.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology preferred. Two years multispecialty experience with one year in a complex specialty area.
  • Must be able to function as a clinical expert in two or more complex specialty service lines and have the ability to float to other complex service lines as needed. Complex specialty areas include CVOR, Complex Neuro Procedures (aneurysm, craniotomy), Large Organ Transplant, Surg Onc (Head & Neck, Skull Based, HIPEC), and Reconstructive Surgery (e.g. TRAM Flaps). Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.

Our Perioperative Surgical Department consist of 28 OR suites, 3 to 4 designated for cardiovascular cases. Our service lines include General, GYN, Urology, Bariatrics, Robotics, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Podiatry, ENT, Skull Base, OMFS, Plastics, and CVOR. We are staffed twenty four seven, 365 day a year. We have some late/call/holiday requirements as well as a rotation to cover overnight shifts and weekend shifts for those dedicated teams. The orientation period would be 8-12 weeks based on experience.
