Heart. Soul. Expertise. That’s what defines an Emory nurse. No matter where you are in your nursing career, when you chose this distinguished profession, you chose to change lives. We are proud to be the only health system in Georgia with four Magnet®-recognized hospitals: Emory Johns Creek Hospital, Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Emory University Hospital, and Emory University Orthopedics & Spine Hospital.
About the unit: (Oncology experience preferred, but not required. This unit is willing to train if you have a strong interest in Cancer care.)
The Bone Marrow Transplant unit provides top quality stem cell transplants and has completed over 7,000 transplants! Stem cells are utilized to treat various hematological cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, germ cell cancers, and more. Our patients receive high doses of chemotherapy to wipe out their immune system. Nursing administers healthy stem cells, either from the patient or from a donor.
We routinely perform CAR-T cell therapy, a targeted immunotherapy that utilizes parts of the immune system (T-cells) that are harvested, grown in a facility, and reinfused into the patient. We are excited to be one of the select few centers in the United States to offer all FDA approved CAR-T cell therapy.
Stem cell transplant and CAR-T cell therapy patients stay with us until their new healthy immune cells grow. We also administer chemotherapy regimens to patients during their treatment for different hematological cancers. In an effort to continuously expand cancer knowledge, we administer clinical trial regimens and provide supportive care to patients at all phases of their cancer journey.
