Description

4400- Med-Tele/stroke  overview

4400 is the designated stroke unit at Emory Decatur Hospital. In addition we care for patients with other neurologic illnesses, low risk cardiac conditions, and patients with other medical conditions. Our nurses obtain their BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certification to care for this population. We are a 24 bed unit. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:5-6. We have an active unit practice council. A Unit Nurse educator and an Education Coordinator are all available for assistance as needed.

7pm - 7:30am/ Full Time/ 36 Hours 

  

We're seeking a Unit Charge Nurse, Med/Surg Department responsible for being a capable clinician who has acquired broad experience in caring for patients and has developed a sound understanding about the care of a particular patient population and routinely uses acquired knowledge, theory, research and experience to respond to changes in clinical situations. This RN professional can apply the Synergy Model for Care in practice and use this knowledge to personalize care for each patient/family while serving as a resource to colleagues and strong advocate for them. This individual will:

 

 

 

  • Oversees daily operations of a clinical unit, supervising staff and ensuring optimal patient and family-centered care.
  • Acts as a change agent, improving organizational systems aligned with department’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Demonstrates expert communication, judgment, and risk-taking in patient care, guiding staff through challenges.
  • Models leadership and communication skills, fostering a collaborative environment and resolving conflicts.
  • Completes necessary reports on time (e.g., employee conferences, risk management), and evaluates operational effectiveness.
  • Coordinates unit resources to achieve optimal patient outcomes, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Serves as charge nurse, role models delegation skills, and mentors others in the Charge Nurse role.
  • Leads staff development by mentoring

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Qualifications: Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Two years experience as an RN with a minimum of two years of experience in the area of concentration. Must have a valid, active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board.

 

  • Certification preferred. BLS required and ACLS may be required in designated departments. If promoted internally or hired externally, the incumbent must complete UCN/SNM criteria requirements within nine months of promotion or hire, including completion of Enhancing your Communication HLC#6488, completion of formal preceptor training workshop and enrollment in LEAP course
