Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

  • Performs basic assessment of patient and monitors response to interventions.
  • Reports observations to appropriate personnel.
  •  Obtains vital signs and measurements.
  • Safely performs designated nursing procedures and other measures per competency management process while following appropriate policies.
  • Administers and records routine medications following appropriate standards of care.
  • Administers primary IV fluids and designated medications.
  • Monitors infusions of epidural and patient controlled analgesia medications.
  • Assists in monitoring controlled substances.
  •  Provides emotional and physical comfort and safety for patients.
  • Assists with hygiene, nourishment (feeding and enteral feedings), and related personal care for both ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients.
  • Monitors patient response to nourishment and enteral feeding flow rates and irrigation.
  • Performs venipuncture to administer fluids, medicine, blood and/or withdraw blood.
  • May assist with various diagnostic procedures.
  • Provides input into the patient care plan including discharge planning; coordinates care with professional and support staff.
  • Implements appropriate critical pathways.
  • Establishes and maintains communications with the health care team, patient, and family.
  • Teaches patient and family and reinforces as necessary.
  • Accesses and enters information on administration of medicines, technical and physical observations of patients in accordance with hospital guidelines.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information.
  •  May assist with research projects.
  • As necessary, assists with admission, transfer and discharge of patients, fluid intake and output and appropriate recording, collection of urine, stool and sputum specimens.
  • Maintains clean, safe and therapeutic environment for patient in compliance with Universal Precautions guidelines and safety standards.
  •  Operates specialized medical equipment common to assigned work area.
  • Assists in maintaining equipment and related supplies.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing Program.
  • A minimum of two years patient care experience preferred (within the last 5 years).
  • Computer skills preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Georgia.
  • Current BLS (CPR) Healthcare provider certification required and ACLS may be required in designated departments.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • (Medium-Heavy) 36-75 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs, 34-66% of the workday; (frequently); 10-20 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 75 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting; Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

  • Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure; Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors; Communicable diseases; Electrical shock; Floor Surfaces; Hot/Cold Temperatures; Indoor/Outdoor conditions; Latex; Lighting ; Patient care/handling injuries; Radiation ; Shift work; Travel may be required; Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators; environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

 

Salary: $20.47- $31.72/hour, The grade and salary of the position are based on specific criteria met within the qualifications of relevant experience, skills, performance and internal equity.
